When Mukand Iron and Steel Works (MUKAND) was planning to set up a new wire rod mill at its Kalwe works near Mumbai, Dastur analyzed the economics and operations of continuous casting technology for the production of semis to feed their wire and rod mill. Thus, continuous casting technology was introduced in India and the first billet caster was installed in the country.

The idea of setting up a large and modern integrated steel works at a coastal location was driven by logistic and operational advantages that Dr. Dastur, our founder, foresaw. This dream was transformed into reality with the setting up of a world-class 3-million- ton integrated steel plant at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, which went into operation during late 1980s-early 1990s.

Conservation of water in basic industries has significant impact on sustainability and environment. Dastur is working towards attaining zero liquid discharge in steel plants with a view to minimizing environmental pollution, as well as reducing fresh water requirement. We are also actively engaged in mitigating the problems associated with water contamination.
