Direct Reduction
DASTURCO has extensive specialised experience in direct reduction (DR) - both for gas-based and coal-based processes. It is one of the very few internationally recognised consultancy organisations in this field. Dr M. N. Dastur, as Director of the Brassert Ore Dressing Laboratory in USA, was responsible for developing the Brassert direct reduction process - the fore-runner of the modern counter-current shaft process - in the early 1950's. After his return to India, he pursued the development of the direct reduction technology in the country. As early as 1951, he was appointed consultant for a project by the Rotary Electric Steel Co, USA. In fact, it was the first ever consultancy on a direct reduction project.
Since then, DASTURCO has built up specialised expertise in the planning, design and engineering of DR plants. It is, today, the only independent consulting engineering organisation in the field with experience of all gas-based DR processes available today in the world, such as HyL, Midrex, Arex etc. It is equally competent in the field of coal-based DR plants also.
DASTURCO has intimate knowledge and experience of all commercial direct reduction processes. It has evaluated all commercial processes of direct reduction. DASTURCO has carried out comprehensive studies for both coal and gas based DR plants with respect to the productivity, selection of raw materials, the consumption of energy, evaluation of emerging technologies, infrastructure facilities etc.
By virtue of its experience in engineering different DR plants, DASTURCO is fully familiar with the developments in DR process technology, performance of operating plants and availability of process equipment in India and abroad.
