The department offers solution to the steel industries in the areas of iron ore sintering, blast furnace ironmaking, pig iron plants, coke making in recovery and non-recovery routes, by-product plant, auxiliary fuel injection in blast furnaces, energy saving and waste heat recovery systems in ironmaking areas.
NATURE OF SERVICES OFFERED
The nature of services offered by ironmaking sections are:
- Techno-economic feasibility study.
- Detailed project report.
- Total consultancy services for ironmaking projects.
- Relocation of old plant units.
- Upgradation and modernisation of existing facilities.
In order to render the above services the following activities are generally undertaken by the ironmaking section:
- Field study for data collection.
- Process route evaluation.
- Preparation of technical specification of plant and equipment.
- Preparation of layouts, flow sheets, material balance etc.
- Selection of technology and technology supplier.
- Technical bid evaluation and vendor selection.
- Scrutiny of vendors, engineering and drawings.
- Detailed engineering in specific areas.
- Coordination of ironmaking projects including site activities.
- Commissioning assistance in specific areas.
- Technical audit and assessment of old plant.
- Upgradation and modernisation scheme for existing facilities.
Some of the major plants for which total consultancy services have been rendered are:
- Tata Steel ‘G’ BF, NACAST BF, RINL BF, SISCOL MBF, Tata Steel SP-2, Tata Steel SP-3, RSP SP-2, NACAST SP, SISCOL SP, COBP of RSP, COBP of RINL and COBP of DPL.
